The Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Access to quality cancer screening and treatment equipment is limited in Barbados. In 2012, The Clara Lionel Foundation began working to address this challenge by establishing the center and installing state of the art equipment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Given that Rihanna’s grandmother Clara Braithwaite had cancer herself, it was important that the Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine be the inaugural project for CLF. The goal of the center is to help improve the lives of the people of Barbados by providing the highest quality cancer treatment possible.

To date, CLF has contributed three pieces of equipment – an equinox external beam, brachytherapy system, and gamma camera CT scan – that analyze and eradicate cancer throughout the body. The center currently provides the entire population of Barbados with an unprecedented level of care.
